What is St. John's Wort?
St. John's Wort is a plant (Hypericum perforatum: Hyperici herba),
the leaf and flower of which have been used medicinally for centuries
to treat a variety of illnesses and conditions. The leaves and flowers
of St John's Wort contain a variety of natural antidepressant substances
including, hypericin, pseudohypericin and hyperforin. St. Johns
Wort has traditionally been used in Asia and Europe to support the
body in fighting depression. Other historical uses include nervous
conditions such as anxiety, sleep disorders, inflammation and bacterial
infections.
St. John's Wort common uses:
- Nervous conditions, including anxiety, depression, and traditionally
for many other psychiatric ailments
- Wound management
- Kidney conditions
- Sleep disorders
- Inflammation
- Bacterial infection
Precautions & Possible Side Effects:
- St. Johns wort side effects are very minimal.
- St. John's Wort does interact with some prescription drugs,
so if on other medication, check with a doctor or pharmacist before
taking this supplement.
